1520's Record Report: April 2022

Hey Young World,

This is third edition of 1520’s Record Report, our new series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

Beastie Boys Book (Book)

This is a very interesting and unique book by and about one of the most interesting and unique groups of all time. We especially recommend the audiobook, as it has a lot of incredible narrators, besides Mike D and Ad-Rock themselves.

Rosalía - Motamami (Album)

Rosalía last album, ‘El Mal Querer’, which was a unique and mesmerizing blend of flamenco and R&B, is undoutebdly one of the treasures of European pop music. After the first few singles after ‘El Mal Querer’ however, we were worried that she would go the generic Latin pop route. We’re really happy she didn’t in the end, because although most of those songs were good, she’s way too creative for that route. ‘Motamami’ proves that once again. It’s a creative tour de force by one of Europe’s brightest stars.

The Sopranos (TV Show)

Yes, it took us this long to watch ‘The Sopranos’. Yes, we are ashamed, because it turns out literally everyone else on the planet was right: this might just be the greatest TV show of all time. If you for some reason have also never seen it, we urge you to get on that as soon as possible. We’re not going to share a trailer, because, come on.

Café Theater Festival (Event)

As some of you might know, we are responsible for the marketing of the Café Theater Festival, an established performing arts festival from Utrecht that combines the performing arts and hospitality. Spread out over four Saturday’s in April, May and June, you can see exciting new performances by up-and-coming performance artists in hospitality establishment across Utrecht. One Love,
