Hey Young World,

This is the May 2023 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

Lea Ypi - Free: Coming Of Age At The End Of History (Book)

I went to school in four different European countries, and in none of them did they teach us enough about the history of other European countries, especially not those that were behind the Iron Curtian. That’s a true shame. If you’re looking to learn, I highly recommend this book, in which Lea Ypi skilfully tells the story of her childhood, her familiy and, through that, Albania. It’s enlightening, sometimes sad and often blisteringly funny.

Monaleo - Ridgemont Baby (SONG)

This is out favorite rap song of the year so far. It has everything a great rap song needs: adversity, defiance, charm and skills combined with an air of effortlessness. The video is fresh too.

Trina’s Tiny Desk Concert (Live Performance)

Speaking of defiance, charm and skills combined with an air of effortlessness: Trina’s Tiney Desk Concert is an absolute joy. While the internet was buzzing about a potential Juvenile appearance, Da Baddest Bitch quietly set the bar really high.

One Love,

Marius | 1520
