Hey Young World,

This is the November 2022 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

Hua Hsu - Stay True (Book)

Stay True by writer and academic Hua Hsu is a moving and relatable memoir, with a particuilar focus on the author’s college years in the Bay Area, his relationship to pop culture and his unlikely friendship with one of his fellow students. If this is not enough to go on for you, you can check out this excerpt (which also works well as a stand-alone article) in The New Yorker.

Warrior Nun (TV Show)

We were starting to think it would never happen, but season two of the Netflix original has been released and, well, it kicks ass. Who doesn’t want to watch holy but deadly nuns chop their way through demons in an effort to take down a devil in (angel) disguise? No? Just us? Your loss.

That’s it for this month! Next month we’ll take a break, but 1520’s Record Report will be back in 2023.

One Love,

Marius | 1520
