Hey Young World,
This is the new edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.
We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.
Murder at Mount Fuji - Toshiro Matsumoto (Novel)
Murder at Mount Fuji is a tightly constructed, iconic crime novel. Set against a striking Japanese backdrop, it follows an investigation that slowly unravels layers of secrecy, guilt, and motive. It’s controlled and atmospheric rather than flashy, but doesn’t shy away from a sharp twist.
Age Of The Ram - Charley Crockett (Album)
Age Of The Ram , Charley Crockett’s final chapter in his Sagebrush Trilog, is a sprawling, narrative-driven classic country record built around the fictional outlaw Billy McLane. It moves between stripped-back ballads and faster songs, all grounded in his lived-in voice. A perfect record to drive to.
The Goldbergs (TV Series)
We’ve started rewatching The Goldbergs, a nostalgic sitcom set in 1980s suburban America, loosely based on creator Adam F. Goldberg’s childhood. Told through home-video aesthetics and pop culture references, it follows a chaotic but familiar family navigating everyday life, from school drama to household arguments. It’s sharply funny, warm, and exaggerated in all the right ways.
One Love,
Marius
