This is the November 2023 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.
We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.
lupin (TV Series)
Lupin, which is loosely based on the adventures of Arsène Lupin, follows the exploits of thief Assane Diop and is yet another French Netflix original we cannot stop recommending because it is so addicting. As I type this, we are about to watch the last episode of the newest season, and we really hope there will be more to come in the future.
Ele A - GLOBO (EP)
Ele A is a new rapper from Ticino (the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland) that is making big waves in Italy and Switzerland. Her sound is often golden era-ish, but in a fresh, modern way. There’s also some UK garage there. Needless to say, we’re hooked. Il globo è tuo!
The Ezra Klein Show (Podcast)
We might have recommended this podcast before (it is a very good podcast in gerenal), but if so, we nevertheless wanted to recommended it again right now, specifically for its multiple-episode, multi-perspective, in depth coverage of the current crisis in the Middle East. It is a thankless job in an era of polarisation, but Ezra and his team do it with full hearts and clear eyes.
