Hey Young World,
This is the fifth edition of 1520’s Record Report, our new series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.
We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.
Hacks (TV Series)
We have recommend Hacks - a series about a cancelled millennial TV writer from L.A. who starts working for a seemingly washed-up boomer comedy legend in Las Vegas - before, but that was before season 2 came out, which is just as good as season one. If you ignored our recommendation the last time, now is the perfect time to get on board.
Margo Cilker - Pohorylle (Album)
Those of you that have been paying attention to our Album of the Year lists know that we usually fall in love with approximately one country album a year. This year, it is definitely this one. Think early Kacey Musgraves, but earthier.
The Mountain Goats - The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton (Song)
Although this song is from 2002, we only discovered it a few weeks ago. When you’re all grown up, it’s rare to stumble across a song that makes you feel like your favourite songs did when you were a teenager. This one did. The album, ‘All Hail West Texas’, is great too by the way.
Classic Ads That Inspired Us (Article Series)
Call it a shameless plug, but we also want to recommend our new series of articles (and Reels, if you prefer Instagram) in which we take a close look at ads that inspired us. The first article is about a Sprite commercial from 1995. The second one will be out by the end of the month.
One Love,
