Hey Young World,

This is the August 2022 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

This month, we’re going to share a book, song and TV show that we loved this summer.

Isabell Allende - The House of the Spirits (Book)

After finding a beat-up 1985 copy of Isabel Allende’s debut novel in a box, I spontaneously decided to read it. The cover cites the The New York Times calling the novel “spectatular". I can’t say I disagree. This multigenerational family drama - heavily inspired by Allende’s family as well as the history of Chile - is a mesmerizing read. I couldn’t put it down.

Longmire (TV Series)

Ever since Friday Night Lights blew our minds, we’re constantly on the lookout for high quality TV shows that are set in rural parts of the United States. Longmore, a police procedural about a seemingly stoic sheriff from Wyoming, is one of those.

Arz - Captain (Song)

An unhatebale feel-good banger from the UK that put us in a good mood all summer.

One Love,

Marius | 1520
