Hey Young World,

This is the June 2025 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

Atsuhira Yoshida - Goodnight Tokyo (Novel)

Goodnight Tokyo is a calm, melancholic novel about drifting through city nights, loneliness, and the quiet connections that hold us together. It follows characters moving through empty streets, 24-hour diners, and dimly lit apartments—alongside unspoken feelings and late-night routines. It’s slow, understated, and deeply human.

Mid90s (Movie)

Mid90s is a raw, nostalgic coming-of-age film set in LA’s skate scene in the 90s. It’s a movie about tense friendships, broken homes, and bad decisions, but it’s also about finding a home in subculture. Shot on 16mm in a 4:3 frame, the film has a warm, boxed-in feel, like flipping through a photo album someone left in the sun.

John Coltrane - Ballads (Album)

We’ve been listening to a lot of jazz lately to calm our heart rates. One standout is Ballads by John Coltrane: a slow, thoughtful record that reveals a quieter side of his playing. No flash, no rush, just calm, emotional depth.

One Love,

Marius | 1520
