Hey Young World,

This is the May 2025 edition of 1520’s Record Report, our series of monthly articles in which we recommend things we’re currently into.

We’ve picked the name Record Report in honor of Hip Hop magazine The Source, which’s album review section went under that name and, when we were growing up, told us what was worth copping and what wasn’t. In our own small way, we hope to do the same.

Dìdi (Movie)

Didi is a tender, funny, and amazingly awkward coming-of-age story about a Taiwanese-American teen navigating identity, family, and adolescence. Set in the late 00s (including a very realistic depiction of teens using MySpace and early Facebook, which might make some of you feel very nostalgic), the film captures the messiness of growing up with warmth, honesty, and a lo-fi charm that feels both specific and universally relatable.

Verifiziert - Bulletholes (Album)

Bulletholes by Verifiziert drifts through hazy beats and inner monologues, blending soft-spoken vulnerability with sleek, understated production. It sounds like it was made for the effortlessly cool kids, but still lets you in.

Naoki Matayoshi - Spark (Novel)

Spark is a dry, tender, and philosophical novel about chasing artistic ambition through failure, obsession, and the grind of everyday life. Set in Tokyo’s comedy scene, it follows a struggling manzai comedian and his eccentric mentor.

One Love,

Marius | 1520
