Hey everybody,

In the last few days, I have seen a lot of articles about a Gallup poll that found that around 15% of American Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, thereby driving up the total number of adults that identify as LGBTQ to a record high. I want to quickly share my thoughts on this.

I want to start by pointing out that is doubtful that Gen Z is "more LGBTQ" than previous generations. Instead, what is more likely is that LGBTQ members of older generations felt that coming out (be it to others or themselves) was even less safe in their time than it is now. It is crucial that we as a society, as a species, continue to work on creating an environment that no longer makes members of the LGBTQ community feel like they have to hide who they are.

That being said, companies looking to market to young people (American or otherwise) cannot ignore this statistic. Unless you start to authentically embrace the LGBTQ community on all levels of your organisation - from staffing to marketing - your relevance will continuously dwindle, and deservedly so.

One Love,
